Venture Capital Discussed at Entrepreneurial Ventures Group Event March 2

At the next University of Iowa Entrepreneurial Ventures Group (EVG) event, venture capitalist Clare Fairfield will discuss the opportunities and challenges involved in working with private equity investors.

The panel discussion, hosted by the UI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center (JPEC), will be held from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on March 2 in Room 2117 of the UI Medical Education and Research Facility (MERF).

This presentation will provide an overview of the private equity markets, an explanation of how the investment process works, and a discussion of some of the challenges facing the creation and development of University-affiliated and/or sponsored companies.

Fairfield is a general partner in two venture capital firms, Concerto Venture Partners and AAVIN Venture Capital, and is president of Strategic Growth Resources, Inc., a consortium of venture capital and private equity investors focused on identifying and funding specific business acquisitions.

Fairfield, who previously served as an associate director of JPEC, received a B.B.A. in Accounting, J.D., and M.B.A. from the University of Iowa.

The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Those interested in attending the discussion should RSVP by Feb. 28 to or call 319-335-1022.

The Entrepreneurial Ventures Group (EVG) is a new initiative coordinated by the JPEC to promote faculty entrepreneurship and technology commercialization at the UI. EVG presentations are open to faculty, staff, and community members interested in education, networking, and supporting faculty entrepreneurship and technology commercialization activities. This interdisciplinary partnership includes the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, College of Engineering, College of Law, University of Iowa Research Foundation, and Office of the Vice President of Research.

EVG programs are part of Iowa Centers for Enterprise: Business & Commercialization Services, which integrates existing economic development activities at UI. Iowa Centers for Enterprise offers a comprehensive program that promotes economic development and technology transfer, provides assistance to Iowa start-ups and existing Iowa businesses and communities, and helps the state of Iowa develop a creative, entrepreneurial workforce.  It also optimizes the flow of University intellectual property into opportunities for licensing, commercialization and business development.
