UI WISE Program Awards Travel Grants

The University of Iowa Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program has announced the fall semester award recipients of its Dr. Eunice Schuytema Beam Travel Grant Program.

The award winners, each of whom receives $250 toward travel to a professional meeting to present scholarly work, are:

--Shehre-Banoo Malik of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada, a biological sciences/evolutionary biology student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS), delivered an oral presentation, "Early evolution of meiosis-specific genes by gene duplications in protists" at the 16th Meeting of the International Society for Evolutionarily Protistology in Wroclaw, Poland, Aug. 1-5.

--Bao Shan of Chaohu City, Anhui Province, China, a mechanical and industrial engineering/human factors student in the College of Engineering, delivered an oral presentation, "Strategic Differences in Mental Rotation Tasks Based On Case Durations" at the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society 50th Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Calif., Oct. 16-20.

--Vanessa R. Simmering of Muscatine, Iowa, a developmental psychology student in the CLAS, delivered an oral presentation, "From Recall to Discrimination: The Dynamic Neutral Field Theory Generalizes Across Tasks and Development" at the 28th Annual Conference of the Cognitive Science Society in cooperation with the 5th International Conference on Cognitive Science in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, July 27-30.
