Maggie Conroy To Perform Solo Play at Old Capitol Museum Dec. 10

Maggie Conroy will perform "Sailing Into Iowa: Maggie's Museum Show," a solo play that combines the themes of story, memory and museums, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 in the Senate Chamber of the Old Capitol on the University of Iowa campus.

In this original solo piece, written by Conroy and directed by Michael Sokoloff, Conroy gives an intimate tour of the Senate Chamber and creates an on-stage "museum" of artifacts and stories that have special meaning to her.

Conroy, a playwright, actor and director, received her MFA from the UI Playwrights Workshop in 1994. She has written and performed her solo piece, "Short History of a Colonial Dame," in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. She wrote the one-person show "Irving Weber's Iowa City" and has performed with Riverside Theatre and the UI Theaters.

Pam Trimpe, director of the Old Capitol Museum and Museum of Natural History, said this program is part of a series of events planned for 2007 to highlight the humanities.

"The Old Capitol is a venue for the humanities, and sharing this special one-person, historical play with the public is a wonderful way to highlight our new enlivened role," Trimpe said.
