Memorial Service Set For Van Allen, U.S. Space Pioneer, Sept. 10
The University of Iowa will hold a public memorial service for Dr. James A. Van Allen at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 10, in Hancher Auditorium on the UI campus in Iowa City, Iowa. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the family will greet attendees following the service.
One of Iowa's most distinguished citizens, Van Allen -- U.S. space pioneer and Regent Distinguished Professor of Physics in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences -- died Aug. 9, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics at the age of 91.
In addition to the memorial service, thoughts and memories may be shared with the Van Allen family through a special Webpage created by Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City.
