UI Art Professor Susan White Will Lead Tour At Museum Of Art April 23

Susan Chrysler White, assistant professor of painting and drawing in the University of Iowa School of Art and Art History, will lead a tour of the painting collections in the UI Museum of Art (UIMA) at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23.

White's tour, "A Painter Looks at Paintings," will be free and open to the public.

On her tour, White will share her ideas and opinions with the audience on many of the UIMA's most significant works, highlighting her personal favorites. The talk will be part exploration of the painter's art and part art history, with opportunities for the tour members to ask questions and have a dialogue with White. The format will provide a forum for the public to participate in the process of looking at art with a renowned expert.

A 1980 graduate of the University of California-Davis, White has received a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artists Fellowship, a residency fellowship at Yaddo Foundation and a residency at the Fabric Workshop in Philadelphia.

Solo exhibitions in 2004 include Littlejohn Contemporary, New York City; Chidlaw Gallery, Cincinnati; and Karsh Masson, Ottawa, Canada. Other exhibitions have been at the Drawing Center in New York City, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Weatherspoon Gallery/Museum in Greensboro, N.C., the Wooster (Mass.) Museum, High Museum of Art in Atlanta, and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Her work has been reviewed in ARTFORUM, Art in America, Art News and Arts Magazine. She has taught at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and in Rome, Carnegie Mellon University, and the Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture, as well as other institutions.

The School of Art and Art History is part of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. Admission is free. Public metered parking is available in UI parking lots west and north of the museum.
