Jerre Stead Speaks At Tippie School On Global Business Leadership
Former Ingram Micro CEO Jerre Stead will speak about "Responsible Leadership in a Global Economy" on April 7 as part of the Tippie School of Management's John Knapp Leadership Lecture Series.
The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Room C435 of the University of Iowa's Pomerantz Center.
Currently Stead is the chairman of IHS, Inc., a leading global technology company. He is the former chairman and CEO of Ingram Micro, Inc., the world's largest distributor of technology products, where he served from 1996 until his retirement June 1, 2000.
Stead took Ingram Micro public on Nov. 1, 1996, which, at that time, was the largest IPO in history for a technology company. Under his leadership Ingram Micro grew from an eight billion dollar company to a 30 billion dollar company doing business in over 120 countries.
Before coming to Ingram Micro, Stead had a distinguished business career with Honeywell, Square D, AT&T, and Legent Corporation. In his 21 years with Honeywell Inc., he rose through the ranks to the position of vice president of operations. In 1987, he joined Square D, where he served as president, COO and eventually chairman and CEO.
He joined AT&T as the president and CEO of their Global Business Communications System in 1992 and later served as AT&T's executive vice president and chairman and CEO of Global Information Solutions. He served as chairman and CEO of Legent Corporation from 1995 to 1996.
Born in Maquoketa, Iowa, Stead received his bachelor's of business administration degree from UI in 1965. He is also a graduate of the Harvard University Advanced Management Program in Switzerland. In 2003, Stead and his spouse, Mary Joy Stead, made a $25 million gift commitment to the Tippie College of Business to support a variety of programs and initiatives. He serves on the Tippie College of Board of Visitors, and several corporate boards.
