An opportunity to attend a series of classes dealing with tax issues directly related to small businesses is coming your way. The Small Business Development Center (SBDC), in conjunction with the John Pappajohn Entrepreneur Center (JPEC) at the University of Iowa, is offering a Small Business Tax Series in October.

This series of five classes, taught by Don Burr from the Iowa Department of Revenue and Finance, will be held each week throughout the month of October.  The dates and topics include:

Oct. 3 -- Sales, Use and Local Option Taxes.

Oct. 10 -- Business Expenses and Deductions.

Oct. 17 -- Reporting Sole Proprietor Income.

Oct. 24 -- Payroll and Employment Taxes.

Oct. 31 -- Construction Contractors.

The weekly classes will meet from 6-8 p.m., in Room S401 of the Pappajohn Business Building on the corner of Jefferson and Clinton streets, Iowa City.

The registration fee for this series is $25 per class. To register, contact Paula McMartin at or at 319-335-3742.

Both the SBDC and JPEC sponsor programs, workshops and conferences designed to meet the specific needs of Iowa small business owners and entrepreneurs.  Additional information on the small business tax series and other upcoming events is available by contacting Paula McMartin in the SBDC office at the e-mail address or telephone number listed above.
