Singer Dick Prall Performs Live On 'Talk Of Iowa' Oct. 7

Brought up in the tiny burg of Sheffield, Iowa, singer/songwriter Dick Prall now performs his songs in Chicago and the Midwest. On Oct. 7, he returns to Iowa to perform his roots-tinged pop songs on WSUI's "Talk of Iowa" radio program, broadcast live at 10 a.m. from The Java House in downtown Iowa City.

The public is invited to join the audience for this special edition of the show, hosted and produced by Ben Kieffer.

According Prall's biography, he has a "fondness for classic, thoughtful songwriting best explained by his early diet of melodic lyricists such as Buddy Holly, Lennon/McCartney, and Elvis Costello."

His new CD, "Fizzlebuzzie," has received rave reviews from Time Out Chicago and Performing Songwriter Magazine says, "Prall has captured the excitement of youth. Lyrics about girls in backless dresses or records through headphones convey the headiness of life and independence and feeling cool for the first time. Soaring melodies meet stacked electric guitars throughout much of the album. Prall's vocals switch from deadpan to gorgeous falsetto to wolf-like howl, as instruments give added meaning to lyrics."

Prall's swing back into Iowa includes shows at Mahoney's, 1602 E Ave. NE in Cedar Rapids on Oct. 7 at 10 p.m. and Willie's in Hampton, Iowa on Oct. 8 at 10 p.m.

"Talk of Iowa Live from The Java House" offers an eclectic variety of topics and guests for its listeners. It can be heard on WSUI-AM 910 from Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, WOI-AM 640 from Ames/Des Moines, KTPR-FM 91.1 from Fort Dodge, KOWI-FM 97.9 from Lamoni, and KWOI-FM 90.7 from Carroll. The broadcast can also be heard in streaming audio at by clicking on "Listen to WSUI"; it is rebroadcast on WSUI at 10 p.m. Fridays.
