Editor Broussard And UI Student Lee Klein Will Read From New Collection
Editor Meredith Broussard and University of Iowa Writers' Workshop student Lee Klein will read from the new story collection "The Encyclopedia of Exes" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29 in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City.
The free reading will be broadcast on the "Live from Prairie Lights" broadcasts on UI radio station WSUI, AM 910, hosted by Julie Englander. Listen on the Internet at wsui.uiowa.edu.
Broussard previously edited the "Dictionary of Failed Relationships," stories from the female perspective. "The Encyclopedia of Exes" represents the male point of view, care of 26 writers.
The new collection has been praised as "insight, humor, top-notch writing and an unparalleled look inside the male mind," and Kirkus Reviews recommended it for "Sensitivity, humor, and flair."
Broussard has published features and reviews in the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle, the Chicago Reader, the Philadelphia City Paper, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the New York Press and Philadelphia magazine. She is a graduate of Harvard University and holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Columbia University. She is a member of the National Book Critics' Circle and the Pennsylvania Association of Black Journalists.
Klein, who edits Eyeshot.net, is represented in the collection by "Incidents of Egotourism in the Temporary World."
The Writers' Workshop is an academic unit of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
