Portion of Madison Street To Be Closed For IMU Construction
A portion of Madison Street will be reduced to three lanes of traffic starting Tuesday, Nov. 15 so construction crews can begin work on the renovation of the Iowa Memorial Union.
Madison Street northbound between Market and Jefferson will be closed to one lane of traffic to accommodate construction until May 2006. Both southbound lanes will remain open.
The $9.9 million renovation will add approximately 13,000 square feet of space to the 80-year old IMU, redesign the interior to make better use of existing space, and add an outdoor amphitheater on the banks of the Iowa River. Construction is expected to be completed in December 2006.
