UI Department Of Surgery Hosting Postgraduate Conference

Surgeons from across the nation will attend the annual Surgery Postgraduate Conference hosted by the University of Iowa Department of Surgery Nov. 10-11 in the Medical Education and Research Facility of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

Attendees will learn about some of the latest developments in areas such as minimally-invasive surgery for gastroesophogeal reflux disease, bariatic (weight-loss) surgery advances, trauma, vascular surgery and cancer care. Organizers say the presentations will provide interest and value to surgeons of all sub-specialties. Participants can earn up to 14 hours of continuing medical education credits.

Presenters include the Sidney E. Ziffen Lecturer, Naji Abumrad, M.D., Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, discussing muscle wasting prevention, and the Richard Lawton Lecturer, Richard Freeman, M.D., Tufts-New England Medical Center, discussing ethics related to transplant waiting lists.

The registration fee for the conference is $350 per person. The fee is $50 for the Iowa Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Senior and Retired Members.
