College Of Pharmacy Fellow, Graduate Students Honored
Two graduate students and a fellow associate from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy were honored recently for their academic and research achievements.
Amber Goedken, a fellow associate with the college's Iowa Drug Information Service, was selected as one of 20 scholarship recipients for the 2005 Wal-Mart Annual Conference Scholarship Program. The program provides $1,000 travel scholarships to attend the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy annual meeting July 9-13 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Goedken will begin as a graduate student in the college's Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Division this fall.
Yongming Zhao and Yifei Liu, both graduate students in the Clinical and Administrative Pharmacy Division, received awards from the 2005 James F. Jakobsen Graduate Student Forum at the UI.
In the biological and health sciences section of the forum, Zhao took first place for his presentation, "Factors Influencing Pre-ESRD Anemia Treatment with Erythropoietin in Elderly Hemodialysis Patients." Liu received a second-place award for his presentation, "Drug Information Seeking Intention and Behavior After Exposure to Direct-to-Consumer Advertisement (DCTA) of Prescription Drugs."
The Jakobsen Forum, held April 29-30 at the Iowa Memorial Union, gives UI graduate students an opportunity to hone their research presentation skills in a conference-like setting.
