Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation Funds UI Arts Share

The University of Iowa Arts Share program has received a $5,000 grant from the Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation. Arts Share, which provides performances and educational programs from the Iowa Center for the Arts, will use this grant during the 2005-06 academic year to cover half the cost of Arts Share events in the greater Cedar Rapids area.

Linn County schools and community organizations can tap the funds to support individual artists or ensembles for workshops, interactive performances or residencies.

The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation is a public charitable foundation holding more than 250 different funds, large and small, established by individuals, families, nonprofit agencies and businesses to benefit Linn County.

Information about Arts Share programs and on-line forms are available at the Arts Share website:

The goal of Arts Share is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa. To serve that goal, Arts Share makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.

The program also sponsors a variety of on-campus performances available to school groups from throughout the region.

The 2004-05 Arts Share roster included more than 100 individual artists and ensembles. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.

Arts Share is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
