Head And Neck Cancer Specialists Offer Free Screening
Specialists from the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and Department of Radiation Oncology will host a free head and neck cancer screening in conjunction with Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, April 15, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Appointments for this free event are required. Call 319-356-4351 for an appointment or for more information. The public screening is part of the Yul Brynner Foundation Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, April 11-17.
Risk factors for head and neck cancer include:
-- Chewing tobacco
-- Consuming alcohol
-- Prior cancer of the head and neck region
Symptoms of head and neck cancer may include sores in the mouth that do not go away, soreness in throat or trouble swallowing, a change in the voice and growths or swelling in the neck.
