Alumni Association Hosts Campus Scavenger Hunt For STAT Medallion

A group of University of Iowa students will soon be scouring the UI campus for a precious prize -- the S.T.A.T. Medallion -- during the University of Iowa Alumni Association's  (UIAA) annual STATvenger Hunt.

S.T.A.T. (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) members are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt on the UI campus from March 28 to April 8. During the course of 10 days, S.T.A.T. members will receive clues via e-mail leading them to the location of the S.T.A.T. Medallion. The first member to solve the clues and find the medallion will win a full season ticket package for UI football games, men's and women's basketball games and wrestling meets for 2005-2006, donated by UI Sports Marketing.

"The clues really make the students think," said UIAA assistant director of programs Cindy Meis. "Some of the students head to the library special collections department to research the clues. They will have to pull out their campus maps and know some Iowa history to figure it out."

Clues will be sent daily and then will be posted to the website at Answers will be posted a few days after the last clue has been revealed.

Last year's winner, Beth Bretthauer of Rockwell City, followed clues like "This building was once the home to a rockin' science professor and his family at the turn of the century, and is now the home to a sisterly group," to the final location at Gibson Square. Bretthauer had to discover where UI science professor Samuel Calvin's home was at the turn of the century to solve this clue. His former residence is now the home of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. S.T.A.T. is a program of the UIAA designed to involve students in the life of the university. Student members are introduced to a variety of ways to meet new people and make the most of their campus experience. S.T.A.T. is one of the largest student organizations on campus with more than 3,000 members.
