Physician To Discuss Cross Cultural Body Language March 28

Creating awareness about cross cultural body language will be the topic of the next International Mondays lecture, March 28 from noon to 1 p.m. in the International Center Lounge. Dr. Venugopal Reddiar, a physician and faculty at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, will give a lecture titled, "Cross Cultural Body Language." This lecture is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.

"Research has shown that many interpersonal conflicts in a multicultural environment are due to misinterpretation and misunderstanding of body language," Reddiar said.

Aside from creating awareness, the other objectives of this talk include stimulating interest to learn more about cross cultural body language, to apply this newly gained knowledge in real life and to use it to avoid conflicts.

For those unable to attend the lecture, WSUI 910 AM, the local public radio station, will broadcast the lecture Tuesday, March 29, following the noon news. For more information on this lecture or International Mondays, contact Buffy Quintero, International Programs outreach coordinator, at 319-335-0345.

The International Mondays series is sponsored by UI International Programs and the Stanley-UI Foundation Support Organization and presents discussions with individuals who have had international experiences. The lectures are usually from noon to 1 p.m. every Monday in the International Center Lounge or other locations on campus throughout the academic year with the exception of holidays and breaks.

UI International Programs consists of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost for academic programs and dean of international programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and the community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.
