UI Opera Theater Will Hold Auditions For Summer Operas April 16-17
The Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater at the University of Iowa will hold auditions for its summer productions of two comic operas 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, and 2-6 p.m. Sunday, April 17, in the Opera Rehearsal Room of the UI Voxman Music Building.
The operas, both to be sung in English, are "Gianni Schicchi" by Giaccomo Puccini and "The Secret of Susanna" by Ermano Wolf-Ferrari. Performances will be July 8-10 in Clapp Recital Hall.
A sign-up sheet for audition times will be posted on the Opera Bulletin Board, opposite Room 2083 in the Voxman Music Building. Auditions may also be scheduled by calling 319-335-1669, where a voice mailbox has been set up for auditions.
To audition, singers should prepare two operatic selections, at least one of them in English. An accompanist will be provided for the auditions.
Members of the public are encouraged to audition. There will be roles available for all voice ranges. Rehearsals will begin May 22 and will be held in the evenings. The production will be under the stage direction of Gary Race, head of the Opera Theater.
The School of Music and the Martha-Ellen Tye Opera Theater are parts of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
