Nursing Students To Host Conference On End-Of-Life Care
The 28th annual Progressive Nursing Day is scheduled for Tuesday, March 8, at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City and will focus on caring for patients and their families during the transitions that occur with the end of life.
The keynote will be a performance piece titled, "A Conversation with Tiffany," written and delivered by Elisabeth Tsubai, a registered nurse who is director of operations for the Palliative Care Program at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. "A Conversation with Tiffany" is a comedic yet poignant sketch that Tsubai uses to educate health care professionals about end-of-life issues.
The sketch is about a fictional 92-year-old woman named Tiffany who comes back from the afterlife to tell a physician about her extraordinary life and about her death in an intensive care unit.
The performance is followed by an interactive discussion on issues related to suffering and the use of educational entertainment as a teaching tool.
The conference is scheduled from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the second floor ballroom, with registration beginning at 7:45. An exhibit hall for vendors will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
