Detective Novelist Lee Child Reads June 24 On WSUI
A reading by detective novelist Lee Child -- a free event at 8 p.m. Friday, June 24, in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City -- will be broadcast on the "Live from Prairie Lights" series on University of Iowa radio station WSUI, AM 910.
His reading from the new Jack Reacher-series novel, "One Shot," hosted by WSUI's Julie Englander, may be accessed on the Internet at wsui.uiowa.edu.
Child's nine novels featuring the adventures of his rugged ex-army cop have become so popular internationally that his fans have dubbed themselves "Reacher Creatures" (reachercreatures.com).
Kirkus Reviews recommended "One Shot" as a book filled with "canny plotting, tight prose, swift tempo" and "gonzo action."
Child's Jack Reacher thrillers including the New York Times bestsellers "Persuader" and "The Enemy." His debut, "Killing Floor," won both the Anthony and the Barry Awards for Best First Mystery.
A native of England, Child worked 18 years as a presentation director for the British television company that produced hit series including "Brideshead Revisited" and "The Jewel in the Crown." Corporate restructuring left him unemployed at the age of 40, leading him to purchase paper and pencils for a new writing career that now supports homes in Manhattan and the south of France, and a supercharged Jaguar.
