Mini Medical School For Des Moines Seventh-Grade Students
WHAT: A Mini Medical School program on heart and lung health for seventh-graders at Weeks Middle School in Des Moines
WHEN: 9:15 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25
WHERE: Weeks Middle School, 901 East Park Ave., in Des Moines
Students from the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine will present the Mini Medical School program to Ms. Koscielak's seventh-grade science classes at Weeks Middle School. A majority of the students are Latino.
Each session (five total) will last approximately 45 minutes. As part of each session, the seventh-graders will rotate through four different stations, learning about various aspects of heart and lung function. The sessions will include hands-on learning opportunities: using a stethoscope; looking at chest x-rays; studying heart models; and participating in science experiments.
