UI To Confer Degrees In Commencement Exercises

The University of Iowa will confer more than 1,500 degrees at fall commencement exercises that begin with Graduate College ceremonies Friday, Dec. 16.

On Dec. 17, ceremonies will be held for the Henry B. Tippie College of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Law and the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Education, Medicine and Nursing.

Seats are not reserved and tickets are not necessary for admission. Doors will be open one hour before each ceremony. Due to safety concerns, guests will not be allowed to take in large bags or backpacks. Also, security officials reserve the right to inspect purses and camera bags.

UITV will broadcast live commencement ceremonies for the Graduate College, Tippie College of Business, College of Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. UITV will also stream its broadcast over the Internet. The full schedule, plus links, is available at

Friday, Dec. 16

Graduate College: 2 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 427. Degrees will be conferred by Provost Michael Hogan.

Saturday, Dec. 17

Tippie College of Business: 9 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 180. Degrees will be conferred by Associate Provost Lola Lopes.

College of Law: 10:30 a.m., Boyd Law Building. Number of degrees to be conferred: 31. Degrees will be conferred by Vice Provost Pat Cain.

College of Engineering: Noon, Clapp Recital Hall. Number of degrees to be conferred: 61. Degrees will be conferred by Phillip Jones, vice president for  student services and dean of students.

College of Liberal Arts & Sciences/Education: 10 a.m., Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Number of degrees to be conferred: 850. Degrees will be conferred by UI President David Skorton.
