Iowa Writers' Workshop Alumna Sabrina Mark Reads Her Poetry Sept. 9
Poet Sabrina Mark, a graduate of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop, will be joined by poet Jason Schneiderman in a free reading at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City.
Mark will read from "The Babies," selected by Jane Miller as the winner of the Saturnalia Books Poetry Prize, and Schneiderman will read from "Sublimation Point," his rueful first book.
Poet Claudia Rankine wrote of Mark's book, "Rarely do we encounter poems that are so precisely framed, though on their surface seemingly whimsical and erratic. These poems are gorgeous, intelligent and disturbing."
Mark has been a recipient of a fellowship from the Fine Arts Work Center, and her poems have appeared in American Letters and Commentary, Conduit, Denver Quarterly, Fence, Volt and other journals.
Schneiderman has published poetry in literary magazines including Columbia, Tin House, Grand Street and Story Quarterly, and his work is included in the anthologies "The Penguin Book of the Sonnet," "Bend, Don't Shatter" and "The New Breed: Gents, Bad Boys and Barbarians II."
The Writers' Workshop is an academic program of the English department in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
