Elizabeth Hill Hikes Iowa Aug. 26 On WSUI 'Live From Prairie Lights'
"Live from Prairie Lights," the series of broadcast live literary readings on University of Iowa radio station WSUI, AM 910, will feature Iowa City native Elizabeth Hill and her first book, "Hiking Iowa," at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. Listen on the Internet at wsui.uiowa.edu.
The free event, hosted by WSUI's Julie Englander, will originate in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City.
Hill spent the summer of 2004 traveling through the state, hiking 400 miles and taking notes for what became the Falcon Hiking Guide "Hiking Iowa: A Guide to Iowa's Greatest Hiking Adventures."
The book includes detailed information and maps of 41 Iowa hikes, plus brief descriptions of another 26 hiking areas. Along the way, Hill addresses issues of wildlife habitat, geology and history.
"I want to help give people the tools to connect with the land, to appreciate what is there," Hill told the Des Moines Register. "Doing things like exploring in the Loess Hills, people can learn how incredibly beautiful they are."
