Globalization Is Subject Of April 28 Seminar
The University of Iowa College of Engineering will present "Globalization: Its Impact on the World and You," a college-wide seminar featuring Doug Schenk, director of John Deere's Global 5000 Tractor Business with factories in the United States, Mexico, China, India, Brazil and Germany, at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in Stanley Auditorium, Room 1505, Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences.
Schenk will discuss each segment of business -- marketing, manufacturing, design, supply management, product support, information systems and management -- to illustrate the impact of globalization and Deere's response. He will also address such questions as:
--Why do Deere and other companies globalize?
--Who are the winners and who are the losers?
--How does an individual take advantage of globalization?
Schenk, who received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the General Motors Institute and a master's degree in industrial administration from Purdue University, has 28 years of manufacturing and business experience with John Deere including directing John Deere's operations in China from 1998 to 2004.
Individuals with disabilities are encouraged to attend all UI-sponsored events. Persons with disabilities who require an accommodation in order to participate should contact the College of Engineering in advance at 319-335-5764.
