UI International Programs Awards 22 Global Certificates
UI International Programs has awarded 22 Global Certificates to faculty and staff who participated in the first "Building our Global Community" program. The Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) facilitates the program with the support and expertise of the UI Office of Learning and Development. Nearly 100 staff and faculty participated in the program during this first year.
"I was impressed with participants' open minds," said Helen Jameson, assistant director of OISS. "This gave us a chance to ask the challenging questions and challenged the participants and us, as facilitators."
Participants who complete the required introductory workshop and their choice of four specialized workshops over a two-year period receive a Global Certificate. The workshops provide staff and faculty with useful skills and insight as they seek to educate and serve international students and scholars.
Word of this innovative program has spread to other institutions in the United States, said Diana Davies, International Programs director. "I have received correspondence from universities all around the country asking, 'How do we create something like this?'"
