The reading, hosted by Julie Englander, will be a free event in the Prairie Lights bookstore at 15 S. Dubuque St. in downtown Iowa City.

Joe, a graduate of Yale and of the Columbia School of Journalism, is the author or co-author of fiction including the books "My Fine Lady," "The Hatwearer's Lesson," "This Just In," "Bebe's By Golly Wow," "Falling Leaves of Ivy," "He Say, She Say," "Details at Ten," "Hit Time," and "Video Cowboys." She teaches writing at the City Colleges of Chicago.

An article in Black Issues Book Review observed, "For author Yolanda Joe, writing from the heart about the soul is what makes a good story great."

Williams' books include "A Plentiful Harvest: Creating Balance and Harmony Through the Seven Living Virtues," "Stay Strong: Simple Life Lessons for Teens," and "The Personal Touch."

A licensed social worker, Williams runs her own public relations agency that represents leading sports and entertainment figures -- including Janet Jackson, Keith Sweat, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence, Sinbad, Chris Rock, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Dave Winfield, Isaiah Thomas, Charlie Ward and Stephon Marbury -- and she is in wide demand as a lecturer.
