UI Dance Department Remembers Linda Crist In April 9 Event
The University of Iowa Dance Department will host a "Gathering of Friends, Colleagues and Students" to honor the memory of Linda Crist, a UI alumna and long-time department faculty member, at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9 in Room E125 (the Grey Studio) of UI Halsey Hall. Crist, 61, died March 8 at Mercy Hospital.
Crist retired at the end of the 2003-04 academic year, after 27 years on the Dance Department faculty. She made a career of researching and teaching Labanotation, the art and science of dance notation. Certified by the Dance Notation Bureau as both a teacher and professional notator, Crist staged several reconstructions from Labanotation, including some that were performed in UI Dance Galas.
She directed the department's summer workshop residencies, including those by the Joffrey Ballet, Alwin Nikolais and Jacques d'Amboise, and she directed the children's corps for the Joffrey Ballet's "Nutcracker" for two of its runs in Hancher Auditorium.
A memorial fund at the University of Iowa Foundation has been established in support of the Dance Department. Memorials may also be forwarded to Iowa City Hospice or Miracles in Motion.
