Registration Underway For UI Alumni Reunion 2005

The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) is inviting alumni to reconnect with old friends, reminisce about former days on campus and make new memories during Alumni Reunion 2005, June 10-12 in Iowa City.

This year's reunion, sponsored in part by Oaknoll Retirement Residence, will honor graduates of the classes of 1965, 1960, 1955 and 1945. Classes that graduated more than 50 years ago are also invited to attend, in addition to the Carver College of Medicine Class of 1950. Registration is now under way and continues for this event through May 27.

"This reunion is a chance for alumni to reconnect with classmates and with the campus and reminisce about their time at the UI," said UIAA President Vince Nelson. "It's also a chance to return to the university and see what's going on now."

Highlights of the reunion include the Alumni College events, where alumni may tour campus throughout the weekend and listen to professors speak about papermaking, geology and the Middle East. Special events on June 10 include a presentation on "Protecting Your Health and Wealth" and a mini symposium celebrating the sesquicentennial of the Department of Chemistry. On Friday, June 10, the Circle of Gold presentation during the All-Class Banquet will honor 50-year alumni. On Saturday, June 11, the Alumni Association will present the Distinguished Alumni Awards, the highest honor given to alumni and friends of the University.

Events for the reunion begin Thursday, June 9, with informal socials and conclude on Sunday, June 12, with a farewell breakfast tailgate at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. Several college dinners, seminars and tours are also planned.

Housing for the reunion weekend will be available at several area hotels; Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.) Ambassadors will be available to provide transportation for guests from their hotels to locations on campus.

Registration fees are $30 for UIAA members, $40 for non-members, plus various costs for college dinners and other activities. For more information on how to receive an Alumni Reunion brochure call 1-800-469-2586. To register online, visit the UIAA website at Registrations received after May 27 will incur a $10 late fee.
