'Art After Hours' Celebrates Oktoberfest Oct. 8 In The UI Museum of Art

"Art After Hours," a program of the University of Iowa Museum of Art (UIMA), will present "Oktoberfest" from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, in the museum's Willis Atrium.

The event will feature food and samples of German beer from John's Grocery in Iowa City, Oktoberfest coffee from Terrapin Coffee Brewery and the opportunity to view artwork at the UIMA.

"Pivot," a current installation project by film and video artist Leighton Pierce, is one exhibit that participants will have the opportunity to view during "Oktoberfest."

"Pivot" is an "active" installation, which means Pierce is in the gallery, working on the installation during the exhibition. Thus, the material exhibited continually changes. "Pivot" is located in the Carver Gallery of the UIMA.

A special guest for Oktoberfest is local Iowa City band Central Standard Time performing live.

Those who plan on attending the event are asked to RSVP no later than Oct. 1 by calling 319-335-3676, or by emailing

The Art After Hours program was organized in 2002 to introduce art and art museums to adults under 45, and to further their knowledge of and interest in a variety of art forms. New participants are welcome and encouraged. For more information regarding the Art After Hours program, call 319-335-1727.

The UI Museum of Art, located on North Riverside Drive in Iowa City, is open noon to 9 p.m. Fridays. Admission to the museum is free. Admission to "Oktoberfest" -- $7 for museum members and $10 for non-members -- will be collected at the door.
