UI Mathematician Receives Endowed Chair At Chinese University

Yangbo Ye, professor in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Department of Mathematics, has been named Li-Ching Professor of Mathematics at Shandong University, China.

Ye, who received his doctorate from Columbia University in 1986 and came to the UI in 1990, will remain on the UI faculty.

Ye, who also holds an appointment as professor of radiology in the UI Carver College of Medicine, says he plans to use the support from the endowed chair to continue his collaboration with Chinese mathematicians in number theory and computed tomography research.

The Li-Ching chair was made possible by an endowment from the Li-Ching Foundation of Taiwan. The Li-Ching Foundation is a private foundation established by Mr. I. Fu-En in 1983 to facilitate educational and cultural advancement of the society.
