UI Mathematician Receives Endowed Chair At Chinese University

Yi Li, professor in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) Department of Mathematics, has been named Xiao-Xiang Professor of Mathematics at Hunan Normal University, China.

Li, who received his doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1988 and came to the UI in 1996, will remain on the UI faculty.

Li says he plans to use the grant that accompanies the endowed chair to continue his work with Chinese mathematicians and organize national and international conferences. His research interests include the field of partial differential equations.

The Xiao-Xiang chair was made possible by an endowment from the Hunan State Education Fund.
