Open Forums Begin UI Strategic Planning Process
The committee charged with writing The University of Iowa's 2005-2010 Strategic Plan invites the university community to two open forum meetings in October. The first forum will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14 in the Penn State Room, Room 337, of the Iowa Memorial Union. The second forum will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Monday, Oct. 18 in Room 283, Eckstein Medical Research Building. Public comment is encouraged at both meetings.
An email address has also been set up for those who cannot attend a forum but who wish to provide feedback. Comments can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The 27-member committee, co-chaired by Provost Michael Hogan and Vice President of Finance and Operations Doug True, is composed of university faculty, administrators, staff and students. They will re-examine the university's current strategic plan, adopted in 2000, as they formulate a new plan to guide the university through 2010. The new plan will be submitted for approval to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa in March 2005.
The Board of Regents recently completed its own strategic plan, and the university will be guided by its goals. Other themes around which the university's plan will be written include: diversity; the undergraduate experience; public engagement and outreach, including economic development and the health sciences; research and post-baccalaureate education; and organizational vitality, including faculty vitality.
