ICC Open House Oct. 10 Features International Fashion Show, Food And Fun

The public is invited to experience everything from an international fashion show to food, music and dance from around the world at the International Crossroads Community (ICC) Open House on Sunday, Oct. 10 from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Hillcrest Residence Hall on the UI campus. The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by the ICC and UI International Programs.

People can tour rooms from 3 to 5 p.m. on the Hillcrest floor. The fashion show and demonstrations will follow from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Martha von Nostrand Lounge. The fashion show will feature attire from Morocco, Nigeria, India, Japan, Korea and Turkey. There will also be tae-kwon-do demonstration, Turkish music, an Indian dance demonstration, a salsa dance demonstration and drumming.

"The ICC Open House will be a one-of-a-kind chance to meet internationally interested and motivated students, get a sneak peek at one of the University of Iowa's special learning communities, and see exciting multicultural demonstrations and a fashion show," said Madelon Boyer, an ICC programmer and UI sophomore German major from Reinbeck. "There will also be lots of great food!"

She adds they hope everyone from faculty, staff and students to members of the general public will join them for this fun, educational event.

Located in Hillcrest Residence Hall on the UI campus, the ICC is a living-learning community open to all students, regardless of academic major or background, who are interested in global issues and different cultures. The ICC is made up of both international and American students who have different language abilities, interests, ages, travel experiences and cultural backgrounds.

The ICC is affiliated with the UI International Programs, which consists of a number of offices, centers, degree programs, academic programs, research projects and services. Organized under the associate provost and dean for International Programs, these units serve to further internationalize the campus and community and promote global scholarship, research and teaching.
