Collaborative Multi-Media Projects Are Spotlighted Dec. 9-11
The University of Iowa Dance Department will present "Beyond Breath," the fall Advanced Choreographic Design Concert, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 9-11, in the David Thayer Theatre at the UI Theatre Building.
Advanced Choreographic Design is a class that brings together student artists from a variety of disciplines, to create collaborative projects that are spotlighted in this concert. Students in dance, theatre, music, art, film and composition share their skills and ideas as they create a multi-media work.
Alan Sener, chair of the Dance Department, commented, "The Advanced Choreographic Design course offered through the Department of Dance speaks directly to the spirit of the creative mission of the Division of Performing Arts, that is, interdepartmental collaboration and the encouragement of student interaction across various artistic disciplines."
"Beyond Breath" offers a variety of perspectives on mortality, exploring the nature of death, our individual and communal responses to it, and the possibilities that exist beyond our consciousness. The production blends humor, satire, and solemnity as it integrates the visual arts, dance, music and theater.
Admission will be $12 ($6 for UI students, senior citizens and youth).
Any remaining tickets will be on sale at the door.
The Dance Department is an academic unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
