UI Offers Information Session For Underrepresented Waterloo Youth

High school students from groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education are invited along with their families to attend an information session sponsored by the University of Iowa from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, in Waterloo.

The session will take place in the University of Northern Iowa's Center for Urban Education, 800 Sycamore St., Waterloo. The event is free and open to the public.

This is a great opportunity for students to learn more about the UI, college entrance requirements and the application process, as well as to acquire information about the academic programs offered by Iowa.

The event is designed to encourage youth from traditionally underrepresented groups to pursue higher education and inform them about opportunities at Iowa, whose mission includes a strong commitment to diversity.

Representatives from the UI offices of Admissions, Financial Aid, Support Service Programs, Academic Advising, Housing, and Orientation will provide information and be available to answer questions. Representatives from the UI colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Business, Nursing, Biosciences, Medicine and from various UI departments will be on hand to talk with students one-on-one.

A student panel composed of current UI African-American and Latino students will take questions from the audience and share their UI experiences.

For more information or to make a reservation, call the Office of Admissions toll free at 1-800-553-IOWA.

The event is being co-sponsored by Opportunity at Iowa and the Office of Admissions.

Opportunity at Iowa, a part of the Office of the Provost, is a coordinated, university-wide effort to create and maintain campus diversity and to provide opportunities for all university students interested in other cultures.
