Holiday Blood Donors Needed
The DeGowin Blood Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics urges area residents to donate blood or platelets in the days immediately before and after the Thanksgiving holiday. The supply of available blood products often runs low during long holiday weekends, so donors are needed to ensure that the hospital's blood supply is adequately stocked to meet patient needs.
The upcoming holidays also give donors another opportunity to participate in the blood center's "The Four Seasons of Life" program. Donors who give blood or platelets four times before Aug. 31, 2005 will receive a full-color, high-quality reproduction of Marcia Wegman's original painting titled, "The Four Seasons of Iowa."
Donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be free of cold and flu symptoms for at least five days prior to donation.
The DeGowin Blood Center is located in Room C250 General Hospital at UI Hospitals and Clinics. The blood center offers free parking to donors who park in Hospital Ramp I, II or III and also will provide free passes to donors who take advantage of the hospital's valet parking services.
Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available, so please call 319-356-2058 to schedule your donation.
