Pesantubbee Named American Academy Of Religion's Executive Secretary
Michelene Pesantubbee, assistant professor in the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Department of Religious Studies and the American Indian and Native Studies Program, has been elected executive secretary for the American Academy of Religion (AAR), the premier international organization for scholars of religious studies. She will assume her duties as executive secretary beginning Jan. 1.
Pesantubbee has been a member of the AAR since 1990, and she currently serves as co-chair of the Native Traditions in the Americas Group and as a steering committee member for the Women and Religion Section. She has presented numerous papers on Native American religious traditions at the annual meetings of the AAR.
Pesantubbee holds Ph.D. and M.A. degrees in religious studies from the University of California-Santa Barbara, and M.S. and B.S. degrees in business education from the University of Oklahoma-Norman.
