Susan Mina of Davenport and Michael Robinson of Cedar Rapids were honored as the 2004 Mom of the Year and Dad of the Year at the University of Iowa. The awards are presented annually by Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board honor societies and recognize parents for their occupational achievements, community activities and personal accomplishments.

The Mom of the Year Award, sponsored by Mortar Board, was presented to Susan Mina. She was nominated by her daughter, Diana Mina, a first year UI student. Susan Mina graduated from the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy after completing her undergraduate degree in chemistry in her home country of Iran. She overcame the language barrier while serving as a role model and source of inspiration for her two children.

The Dad of the Year, sponsored by ODK, was presented to Michael Robinson. He was nominated by his daughter, Brittney Robinson, a first-year student. Michael Robinson is father to four adopted children and has also been a foster parent for 15 years.
