DeGowin Blood Center Offers Donors 'Black And Gold' Shirts

Do you bleed black and gold? Prove it!

From June 1 through August 31, the DeGowin Blood Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City will give the highly popular "I Bleed Black and Gold" t-shirts to all blood and platelet donors.

"It's a great promotion for us," said Mitch Overton, donor recruitment coordinator for the DeGowin Blood Center. "Summer is traditionally a slow time for blood donations, so we wanted to do something special to motivate our donors to come in when there are so many other things to do.

"When we introduced these shirts in 2001, the response from our donors was tremendous," Overton added. "Considering the excitement surrounding the Iowa football team right now, we thought it would be a good time to re-introduce them."

The DeGowin Blood Center supplies blood products for UI Health Care patients. Last year, specialists performed more than 33,000 transfusions at UI Hospitals and Clinics, an average of 90 every day.

You must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be cold and flu symptom free for five days to donate blood.

The DeGowin Blood Center is located in room C250 GH in UI Hospitals and Clinics, located at 200 Hawkins Drive, immediately east of legendary Kinnick Stadium. In addition, the center also conducts mobile blood drives in various locations throughout the area.

Please call 319-356-2058 for more information or to make an appointment to donate. You may also visit the blood center's web site at
