UI Names Reighley Assistant Vice President For Research

The University of Iowa has named Twila Fisher Reighley to the position of assistant vice president for research and director of the Division of Sponsored Programs, effective Aug. 1.

Reighley currently serves as director of grants and contracts at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center (UCHSC) where she has directed 25 staff and an operating budget of $1.7 million from 1996 to the present. She is also responsible for pre- and post-award administration and accounting, as well as the execution of proposals, grants, contracts and subcontracts. In addition, she has chaired the UCHSC faculty Conflict of Interest (COI) subcommittee that developed a COI policy.

Reighley will succeed Brian Harvey, who will retire at the end of June. "Brian has provided effective leadership for the Division of Sponsored Programs for over 33 years, overseeing dramatic growth in the university's ability to generate external grant and contract support," said UI Interim Vice President for Research Bill Decker. "Reighley's 22 years of experience in research administration, especially given her experience with health and biological sciences funding sources, makes her an excellent choice to continue providing leadership for the support of our research enterprise."

Reighley has served on a variety of national committees, and she currently is a member of the board of directors representing Region VII of the National Council of University Research Administrators. Prior to joining the UCHSC staff, she served for 16 years in positions of increasing responsibility in research administration at Arizona State University, Tempe. She received her B.S. in business administration from the University of Missouri in 1980 and her MBA from Arizona State University in 1987.

During fiscal 2003, University of Iowa faculty, together with staff and students, generated a record $352.8 million in grants and contracts for UI research, education and service.
