Women's Center Co-Sponsors Discussion Of Same-Sex Marriage
The Women's Resource & Action Center (WRAC) at the University of Iowa will co-sponsor "Marriage Matters - A Town Meeting" on Monday, May 17 in the Jerry J. Kollros Auditorium (Room 101) of the Biology Building East on the University of Iowa campus.
The event will begin with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a program from 7 to 9 p.m., which will include presentations by Heather Sawyer and Camilla Taylor of Lambda Legal Defense and Education; and a panel discussion featuring Dr. Ellen Lewin (UI professor of women's studies and anthropology), Rev. Dee Lundberg (pastor, Faith United Church of Christ), Iowa State Senator Joe Bolkcom and Sara Baird, a local woman whose family includes her female partner and their two children.
The event coincides with the first day on which same-sex couples will be able to marry legally in the state of Massachusetts, the first and only state in the United States where this is possible. It is free and open to the public, and all are welcome.
For more information, or to arrange for needed accommodations to participate, please call the Women's Center at 319-335-1486.
