Students To Host Conference On Nursing's Past, Future

The 27th annual Progressive Nursing Day, is scheduled for Tuesday, April 13 at the Iowa Memorial Union in Iowa City. The event, organized by the University of Iowa Association of Nursing Students in collaboration with other groups, will focus on learning lessons from nursing's history in order to shape the future of the profession.

Actress Pippa White will perform a one-woman dramatic interpretation from the journals of Florence Nightingale, setting the stage for a discussion of the history of nursing.

The keynote address, "The Nurse Leader Role: Today, Tomorrow, and the Future," will be delivered by Patricia Campbell, executive director of Women's and Children's Services at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N. C.

The conference is scheduled from 9 to 11:45 a.m. in the second floor ballroom of the IMU, which is located at Madison and Market streets. An exhibit hall for vendors will be open from 7:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Students, educators, practicing nurses, individuals thinking about nursing as a career, and the general public are encouraged to attend. Continuing education credits (0.24) are available for full-time attendance. Pre-registration is not required; attendees may register at the door. Admission prices are: high school students and UI nursing students with photo ID, free; UI students not enrolled in nursing and visiting nursing students, $5; non-CEU credit participants $8; and for CEU credit participants, $18.

Progressive Nursing Day is organized by the UI Association of Nursing Students (UIANS), an undergraduate student leadership organization, in collaboration with faculty and members of Sigma Theta Tau, Gamma Chapter, the local chapter of the international honor society of nursing. UI Student Government provides sponsorship as well.
