Alumni Association Hosts Campus Scavenger Hunt For STAT Medallion
The University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) will challenge student knowledge about the UI campus as part of its annual STATvenger Hunt from March 29 to April 9.
STAT (Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow) members are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt on the UI campus. During the course of 12 days STAT members will receive clues via e-mail leading them to the location of the STAT Medallion. The first member to solve the clues and find the medallion will win a full season ticket package for UI football games, men's and women's basketball games and wrestling meets for 2004-2005, donated by UI Sports Marketing.
"The clues really make the students think," said (UIAA) assistant marketing director Emily Cornish. "Some of the students head to the library special collections department to research the clues. They will have to pull out their campus maps and know some Iowa history to figure it out."
Clues will be sent daily and then will be posted to the website at www.iowalum.com/student. Answers will be posted a few days after the last clue has been revealed.
Last year's winner, Phillip Vincent Brown, followed clues like "Look east of a 'globule' which is typically hollow, light and hemispherical to find the STAT medallion" to the final location at Slater Hall. Brown had to look up definitions in the dictionary and figure out what building on campus is nicknamed "The Bubble" to solve the clue.
STAT is a program of the UIAA designed to help students become familiar with the alumni association prior to graduation. STAT is one of the largest student organizations on campus with more than 3,000 members.
