Financial Times Ranks UI Finance Program Among Top in the World
The Financial Times of London has ranked the University of Iowa's Finance Department seventh among the top 10 programs in the world.
The department earned the distinction as part of the Financial Times' survey of top 100 MBA programs in the world. Published in January, the departmental specialty rankings were based on surveys of MBA alumni.
The Financial Times ranking placed the Finance Department in the UI's Tippie College of Business with some well-respected programs, including New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business (ranked first), the University of Chicago (ranked fourth) and the London Business School (ranked eighth).
"We are very pleased with this recognition from our graduates," said Jay Sa-Aadu, Finance Department chair and Chester A. Phillips Professor of Business Finance and Real Estate. "The ranking is a reflection of the value-added activities of the Iowa Finance Program including our instructional strategy of 'learning by doing,' and our focus on competency in financial management, financial information technology and students' career services. Together these attributes of the program impart students with conceptual and technical skills that enhance their managerial effectiveness in business organizations and provide for a smooth transition from classroom to work place."
In the Financial Times' overall ranking of MBA programs, the Tippie School of Management was ranked 49th in the world, 33rd among U.S. programs and 13th among programs at public U.S. universities. Information about the rankings is available on the Financial Times website at http://ftcareerpoint.ft.com/BusinessEducation.
The Finance Department at the UI is committed to delivering programs at all levels that integrate the technology and analytics of today's global financial community. The goal of the finance curriculum at the UI is to give students the technical skills to enhance their managerial effectiveness in the workplace, whether they work in large corporations, small organizations or private consulting.
