Educational Talent Search 2nd Chance Group To Visit UI
A group of 40 students from Educational Talent Search 2nd Chance in Chicago Heights, Ill., will visit the University of Iowa on Wednesday, June 9. Opportunity at Iowa will host the group and has organized presentations from the Office of Admissions, Financial Aid, and Special Support Services. The presentations will provide the students with critical information about admissions requirements, education financing opportunities, and student services available to them to ensure academic success.
Educational Talent Search 2nd Chance is a college placement agency that identifies high-risk, economically disadvantaged youth with the potential to enter college. The agency offers students exposure to various colleges and assists with ACT preparation. Other services provided by the agency include a summer leadership program and field trips designed to develop leadership skills; after-school programs that emphasize computer, math, English, reading, and life skills; and a violence prevention/conflict resolution program. Georgia Blackstone is director of Educational Talent Search 2nd Chance.
The Opportunity at Iowa program is part of a coordinated university-wide
effort to create and maintain campus diversity and provide opportunities
for all university students interested in other cultures. Working collaboratively
with such offices as Admissions, Orientation, Equal Opportunity and Diversity,
Student Financial Aid, the Graduate College and Support Service Programs,
Opportunity at Iowa provides information about various academic resources
that are available to enhance a student's collegiate experience while attending
