Tippie College Recognizes Exemplary Teachers

The Tippie College of Business recently recognized several faculty for their dedication to teaching, a central mission of the college. These faculty are dedicated to being the best teachers they can be, sharing their knowledge of business principles and practices with hundreds of students each year. In the past, the college presented the Collegiate Teaching Award to one faculty member; this year, the college developed the Dean's Teaching Awards to honor other respected faculty as well.

Todd Houge (left) won the Collegiate Teaching Award, while Sonia Rego, John Solow, Ken Brown, Tim Lowe and John Murry received the new Dean's Teaching Awards, given after their departments nominated them as exemplary teachers. Funds for these awards came from the O. Wayne Rollins Foundation, given at the discretion of college benefactor and businessman Henry Tippie, a trustee of the Foundation.

An all-college committee selected Todd Houge as recipient of the Collegiate Teaching Award in recognition of his work with students in the Henry Fund and Krause Challenge as part of the Applied Securities Management and Securities Analysis classes.

Sonia Rego (left), assistant professor of accounting and Lloyd J. and Thelma W. Palmer Research Fellow, has been on the accounting faculty at the Tippie College since 1999.

John Solow (right), associate professor of economics, joined the Tippie College in 1981. This past year, Solow taught Principles of Microeconomics and Economics of American Industries to undergraduates, and Managerial Economics to MBA students.

Ken Brown (left), assistant professor of management and organizations and Huneke Faculty Research Fellow, also won James N. Murray Faculty Award, presented by the Beta Iota Circle of Omicron Delta Kappa at the University of Iowa's annual Finkbine Dinner for Representative Student Leaders in April.

Tim Lowe (right), C. Maxwell Stanley Professor of International Operations Management has been on the Tippie College faculty since 1989. Lowe frequently teaches executive MBA courses and spent part of the spring in the Hong Kong, teaching in Iowa's International Executive MBA Program.

John Murry (left), associate professor of marketing, has been at the Tippie College since 2000. He has won several teaching awards in his previous teaching positions at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Wisconsin.
