Annual 10-Minute Play Festival Hits The Stage Feb. 12-15

The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will present "8 X 10," the 2004 edition of its annual 10-Minute Play Festival, a showcase for the work of undergraduate playwrights, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 12-14, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.

Artistic Director Kate Aspengren, a graduate of the Iowa Playwrights Workshop and founder of the 10-Minute Play Festival, comments: "This is the seventh year for the 10-Minute Play Festival and this year's offerings show a great diversity in terms of writing styles and subject material."

The eight 10-minute plays in this season's production are:
-- "Age of Reason," written by Martin Schiltz and directed by Jaret Morlan;
-- "Theatre for the Blind," written and directed by Jamie Margolin;
-- "Matsukase at Manzanar," written by Justine Nakase and directed by Janet Bentley;
-- "The Rope Swings," written by Toni Wilson, and directed by Cara Brostrom;
-- "Yellow Marrow," written by Paul Rust and directed by Spencer Griffin;
-- "Shears," written by Sarah Neilson and directed by Noretta K. Griffith;
-- "Spitting in Ashes," written by Diana Grisanti and directed by Sarah Hammond; and
-- "The Great Irony Heist," written and directed by Eric R. Burchett.

Admission to the 10-Minute Play Festival will be $5 ($3 for UI students) at the door. Tickets will go on sale one hour before curtain time.
