UI Heart Care Opens New Service In Southeast Iowa City

Heart specialists from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, Jan. 14 providing advanced cardiac care in a new location on the southeast side of Iowa City.

Physicians and staff from UI Heart Care jointly developed an outreach clinic at UI Family Care -- Southeast Iowa City. The diagnostic testing and consultation clinic offers patients a convenient option for receiving care aimed at the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of heart disease.

"Despite recognition of the problem and intensive efforts to treat and prevent the disease, heart disease is still American's number one killer and causes 42 percent of all deaths in Iowa," said Neal Weintraub, M.D., interim director of the Division of Cardiovascular Diseases at the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. "By partnering with family physicians at UI Family Care -- Southeast Iowa City, we hope to offer the community convenient access to our cardiovascular specialists in order to help reduce the incidence and consequences of heart disease."

The clinic will be offered on Wednesday afternoons, starting Jan. 14. UI Heart Care specialists will provide stress echocardiograms, transthoracic echocardiograms and treadmill stress tests on site. UI Family Care-Southeast Iowa City is located at 1130 Scott Blvd. People interested in an appointment can call UI Clinical Outreach Services at 353-7208.
