UI To Host Occupational Health Symposium March 11-12
The University of Iowa will host its sixth annual Occupational Health Symposium March 11-12 at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City.
This year's symposium, "New Dimensions in Health and Safety," will provide up-to-date information on health and safety in the workplace and offer networking opportunities. Speakers will address the following topics as they relate to the workplace: safety and preparedness, eye care, noise hazards, chronic back pain, mental health issues and new trends in occupational medicine. The symposium is designed for physicians, nurses, industrial hygienists, safety professionals, administrators, human resource professionals and other individuals interested in improving the health and safety of workers
A pre-symposium course, "Respirators: What You Need to Know to Protect Workers," will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10 at the Sheraton Hotel in Iowa City. This one-day workshop will provide an overview of the appropriate use of respirators to protect workers. Content to be covered includes the Occupational Safety and Health Administration respirator standard, qualitative and quantitative fit testing, and selecting respirators to best protect workers.

The symposium is jointly sponsored by the UI Colleges of Public Health, Nursing and Medicine, the Heartland Center for Occupational Health and Safety and WORKSAFE IOWA.
