Police Seek Information About Reported Fight
University of Iowa police are seeking the public's help in their investigation of a reported fight on campus early Sunday morning.
According to Duane Papke, associate director of the UI Department of Public Safety, an anonymous caller contacted the University Police Division dispatch at 2:10 a.m. Sunday to report a fight in progress outside the east side exterior of Daum Residence Hall.
Responding officers found that a 20-year-old male had been injured and they called the Johnson County Ambulance Service to the scene. The victim had been hit over the head with a beer bottle and kicked in the head after he was on the ground.
It was reported that between seven and 10 males had surrounded a male and female companion of the victim's before the assault occurred. Other people passing by came to the scene to break up the fight.
The group of assailants was last seen walking north towards Currier Residence Hall. The Department of Public Safety is asking anyone who witnessed this incident or who may have information about the fight to call the UI police dispatch office at 319-335-5022.
